UK-Ukraine twinning initiative progress and impact

Lancaster’s partnership with (DUT) was created through the Twin for Hope initiative. The twinning project’s impact has been analysed in by organisers, with Lancaster staff receiving a Certificate for Gratitude.

Twin for Hope was created by Universities UK International and Cormack Consultancy Group in 2022 to help partner UK and Ukraine universities following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. ?

A new progress report on the initiative shows that 105 universities have since been twinned through the project, with ?70 million generated for Ukrainian universities, and more than 50,000 students and staff directly engaged.

Many of the partnerships have developed long-term co-operation plans, with innovative programmes and targeted support helping Ukrainian universities move from crisis response to long-term renewal.

Chairman of Cormack Consultancy Group Charles Cormack said: “What began in 2022 as an urgent response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine has evolved into what is arguably the most successful mobilisation of UK universities to support colleagues in another country.”
